Hip Handbag Dupes

It isnt a secret - I am a handbag-aholic. I cannot get enough of them. It is my go-to accessory and the one thing I can never pass up. Shoes? Not so much. Jewelry? Fun, but not my fav. Handbags are where it's at for me. The only problem? As I have taken a deeper interest in fashion, my tastes have gotten a bit more expensive. Which would be fine if I wasnt 2 years out of college with a mountain of loans. My latest obsession has been the Celine Luggage top handle tote. I want it BAD! So after scouring the internet for bags similar to the Celine tote, the only thing I could find was something on Aldo that is no longer in stock. In the spirit of never giving up, I decided to see what else Aldo had to offer. HOLY freakin MOLY! This is like the holy grail of purses. All the styles I want but cant yet afford. Check out the comparisons below and see for yourself!

Note: I am not an advocate for knock-off or imitation bags! I do, however, support similar alternatives to bags that are out of most people's price range.

March Favs!

Okay, so this favorites post is so random! I was not really too into makeup this month. I am not required to wear it for my job, which allows me to wake up 30 minutes before I have to be there- which I love. My skin also loves it too because for the most part, it gets to be natural (new post on THAT coming soon). So as a result, my favorites are pretty all over the place...

  1. Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies. I am literally eating one of these right now with some green tea. It all started last week when I was strolling through the grocery store. You know, during that "female time" once a month, where you want to eat everything in freaking site! This was a result of one of those times. I shouldn't even step foot into a grocery store that week, it is so lethal. I walked out with these brownies, cheese, fruit snacks, and Smart Ones breakfast sandwiches. Weird-o!
  2. Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara. As previously mentioned, I don't really wear makeup during the week. One of the two products I do wear, however, is this. I almost always have to have mascara on. I feel naked without it.
  3. US Weekly. My guilty pleasure. I stumbled across a Groupon last month for a year subscription to this magazine for only $34. Heck yes! I wait with baited breath every week for this bad boy to come in the mail.
  4. Maybelline Baby Lips. I have these in every color except the clear one. They smell amazing, stay on my lips for a good amount of time, and have a pretty good color payoff for being a lip balm. This is the other makeup item I wear during the week. You would be amazed at what some mascara and a coral lip can do for a girl! Walmart had their limited edition ones in a two-pack for $5 I think. STEAL!
  5. Aveeno Leave In Treatment. I have pretty fine hair, I just have a lot of it! So brushing my hair post-shower is a nightmare. I look like a rag-a-muffin. This amazing spray works wonders! It makes brushing super easy and pain-free. One tip though: stand in the shower when you apply, when I apply it in my bathroom standing on the tile, the excess falls on the floor and makes it so slippery you would think you were on an ice skating rink.
  6. Jimmy Eat World. Need I say more?!

Product Spotlight: Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman Setting Brush

I am always on the hunt for bargain makeup brushes. Good ones are so damn expensive! And I know, I know, "you get what you pay for". Well you know what?! Sometimes I just want a good product at a low price! Is that so much to ask?!?! I didnt think so ;-)

Glam-fans, meet the Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman Setting Brush. I have seen this brush used for many things, blending concealer, highlighting, contouring. My main reasons for buying it were... well... all of the above! What I typically do is try the brush out for a few different things, and then see which technique it works best for.

I like this brush for two things: applying setting powder on my under-eye concealer & highlighting/contouring.

After applying my under-eye concealer, I use e.l.f. High Definition Undereye Setting Powder, and this brush is fluffy and applies the powder just right. I then use this brush to highlight my face, using Victoria's Secret Brilliant Shimmer Shadow in Gold Dust (which is unfortunately discontinued); and then contour with bronzer. The bronzer I use varies depending on the day, but I will list them below!

Overall this brush was a good value for being $8. I would definitely repurchase this brand.

Glam Fit 2013 ~ Update!

Hi lovelies!

I haven't mentioned my Glam Fit 2013 goals/lifestyle change much recently, but I wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten! I definitely dont eat this way 100% of the time, like Lauryn at The Skinny Confidential has said, it's more of an 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I eat good, organic, healthy foods and 20% of the time I treat myself. I mean, c'mon now it's Girl Scout Cookies season! Let's be real!

So here are a few of my go-to staples that I eat on a regular basis:

  • Breakfast Smoothie: coconut water, 1/2c combined of blueberries/raspberries/blackberries, Fage Greek Yogurt, a few baby carrots, spinach, and 1T of Chia Seeds.
  • Scrambled eggs, sometimes with swiss & avocado. I love scrambled eggs, but they do get old hence my new bfast smoothie.
  • Coconut flour pancakes. I found a great recipe on my new fav site, Wellness mama, that you can find HERE. (photo from her website above)
  • Lettuce wraps. This isnt your PF Changs style lettice wrap. I actually take leaves of romain and make a sauce out of Fage & mustard, spread a little in the rib, and then add turkey breast, swiss, avo, tomato, and a little onion. Like a lunch time sandwich minus the carbs!
  • Chicken italian sausage sauteed with a ton of mushrooms, zucchini, onion, garlic, and topped with a no sugar added marinara. Definitely gets me my italian fix!
  • A simple 94/6 ground beef patty with a little cheddar and some grilled onions are a great meal that feels like a treat. Add some lettuce if you want to eat it like a traditional burger.
  • Pad Thai. Yes I am being serious. I make pad thai with Shiritaki Noodles and it is SO GOOD! Just make your typical Pad Thai recipe; fish sauce, soy, a little brown sugar, lime, cilantro, green onion, tumeric, and whatever protein you want! I have done shrimp, crab, and chicken and all were delicious.
Let me know if any of you want individual recipes for these items and I would be happy to post for you!

**Also, I use NO vegetable oils at all. The only oils I use are a little olive oil, but mostly coconut oil. The photo above is the mondo-sized one from Costco.

February Favorites

I cannot believe February is already over. Where is the year going?! Here are my Feb favs, I dont really have a lot of them as I didnt really buy a lot of new products this month. But here we go:

1) Number 4 Lumiere d hiver Clarifying Shampoo. I received this sample in my January Birchbox and I really, really love it. I love the concept of a clarifying shampoo, but I just havent found any that do anything above and beyond my typical shampoo. This, however, I really love. There are a few things that really turned me on to this: first it smells great, second it leave my hair feeling soft and very light weight, and third it strips away all the hairspray & dry shampoo without stripping my hair's nutrients. The texture is odd, similar to honey and it doesnt give you that crazy lather you may be used to. But I just wet my hair, put a little more than a pea sized drop on my fingers, emulsify it with water and then spread my fingers and put directly on my scalp. I do this about 4 times, finishing with the length/strands of my hair, lather, and rinse. LOVE! The only downer is  it is expensive but I think worth it. LINKHERE

2) My newest polish additions. I am really not too into the neon trend, I think it is loud and a bit overstated, but everytime I see bright yellow nails on girls I love it. So my local beauty store had 30% off all China Glaze which is my favorite polish lately, so I picked up these two colors. The neon yellow is from their Summer Neons Collection 2012, and is called "Sun-Kissed", and the olive green is from their Hunger Games Collection and called "Westside Warrior". The green is a gorgeous creamy color that I really love, especially when I am not feeling bright nails. My go to is usually a dark brick red but this will be a nice alternative. The neon yellow is a really great color and actually paints with a matte finish so it might be fun to play around with a super shiny top coat and do that shiny french tip trend I have been seeing.

3) My sister wears Miss Dior and I have always liked the way it smelled, so for Christmas she purchased a mini for me to try out and see if I liked it for everyday use. I finally got around to using it, and I love it, especially for spring.

4) I ordered a bunch a new books a few weeks ago, and finally have had some down-time to read. I really, really am loving Colleen Hoover. I read both books this week, finishing Point of Retreat a few hours ago and what can I say, I am hooked. I cant wait for her other book, Hopeless, to come out in print soon because I really enjoyed her writing style. Slammed is the first book, Point of Retreat is the second. A cliff-notes version of the plot is basically a young woman who falls for her new neighbor, but due to some pretty dramatic circumstances cant be together but have to coexist in daily life. They both have experienced some of the same tragedies, and the male character is about to help the female character through a few more. It is just an all-around, well written romance and coming of age novel.

5) I am always on the hunt for a good concealer. I was using Benefit Erase Paste but found that it wasn't that blend-able. The coverage is amazing but it takes a little work to blend into my foundation and look good. The Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer is fantastic. It is creamy, easy to blend, and has great coverage. It also has superior staying power, especially when set with a powder.

6) I have had this brush for a while, but actually stopped using it in place of just using my fingers to blend my foundation. I dont know why, but last week I was getting ready and it was just staring at me, looking lonely, so I decided to give it some love and try it out with my new(ish) foundation. And I forgot how flawlessly this brush distributes my foundation. It really blends well and leaves a super clean finish. No brush stroke lines or anything. And for $3, the elf Powder Brush is definitely worth a try.

What were your favorites this month?? Leave me a comment below!

Product Spotlight: Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara

Mascara is the one thing I cannot live without. Regardless of where I am, what I am doing (besides sleeping obviously), I always feel more put together when I have mascara on. That being said, I am always looking for the best mascara. I have tried all the top brands: Dior, Lancome, MAC. But I think that you can find some pretty good dupes in drugstores. Well everyone, I have found my new favorite mascara! Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Washable Mascara! I am addicted. I love it, I wear it every chance I get. It makes my lashes longer, thicker (the most important factor to me), and separates them nicely. It doesn't smear/flake/give me raccoon eyes and it lasts all day. I will definitely be repurchasing this in addition to the water proof one for summer!
